A project for the community, by the community.

The project in video

Watch Father Normand Bergeron, parish priest of Sainte-Cécile and rector of the basilica, Jacques Lemieux, president of the parish church and administrator of VALSPEC, and Jean-Félix Bellavance, organ builder, present the project in 5 minutes.

The project, in brief..

The project aimed to move, restore, repair, reinstall and reharmonize within the cathedral-basilica an organ from the former Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Allégresses church in Trois-Rivières. The instrument was built in 1919 by the Compagnie d'Orgue Canadienne de Saint-Hyacinthe. It was restored and completed by the Casavant house, also of Saint-Hyacinthe, in 1949 and 1962. The move of the organ to Salaberry-de-Valleyfield as well as its restoration were carried out between 2022 and 2024 by the Ateliers Bellavance.

This new instrument has 41 stops, 47 ranks and 3 pedal keyboards.
13 Grand Organ stops, 13 recital stops, 7 positive stops and 8 pedal stops.
The two organ cases were modified to harmonize with the Gothic style of the basilica-cathedral.
